WHAT IS PROSTATE CANCER...?
The Prostate is a gland located below the bladder, encircles the urethra in males and it lies in front of the rectum. The Prostate gland has high amounts of zinc in it and it helps the male body fight off infections. The Prostate gland is the size of a walnut, about 20 to 25cm in adult male. Over time the Prostate gland will grow and this is call BPH benign prostatic hyperplasia, or as a result of Prostate Cancer. Prostate Cancer is a malignant growth of the glandular cells in the Prostate. Human body is composed of billions of cells which are the smallest units in the body.
What is PSA?
PSA = prostate specific antigen. PSA is a chemical that is produced by it's cells and only a small amount gets into the bloodstream, but when the Prostate is irritated, inflamed, or damaged is called prostatitis and prostate cancer, PSA leaks into the bloodstream easily causing the same, (PSA levels), to be higher in the blood test results. The usual normal level is from 0 to 4, but there are doctors who think that normal range for the PSA varies with race and age.
* The next time you need a Prostate check, should be once a year, ask your doctor for a PSA blood test, yes, that is it, no more touching. Remember Health is Living.
